Lab Riccobono

In October 2023, the Riccobono Group created its collaborative research and development laboratory, the Riccobono Lab, to meet the challenges of a profoundly changing print market and explore new industrial niches.

The Riccobono Lab: innovating to diversify

A true engine of innovation, this laboratory is integrated into the heart of the group's operations and collaborates with all graphic arts production sites in order to transform innovative ideas into concrete solutions for customers and partners.

With clear and strategic objectives, the Riccobono Lab pursues three main missions:

Technological monitoring

detect innovations in the graphics industry and identify new industrial opportunities.

Incubation of solutions

model and create new equipment or processes to improve existing activities and open up new perspectives.

Acceleration and optimization

improve industrial processes, increase productivity and reduce the environmental impact of operations.

Concrete innovations in the service of graphic arts. Among the Lab's first initiatives:

PBRS – Postal Bag Riccobono System

An automated addressed package creation system, replacing traditional heavy and non-eco-friendly mailing bags, offering a more convenient and environmentally friendly solution.

Riccobono System (LRS) label:

A set of patented solutions allowing plastic film to be replaced by labels for the finishing, addressing and sale of newspapers and magazines by issue, a virtuous alternative to plastic film.

“The Lab aims to carry out technological monitoring by looking out for new developments in the graphics industry and identifying new industrial activities.”

Camille Hoarau, industrial director of the group

Genesis of the Packaging activity

A laboratory serving customers and teams

In response to the AGEC law, with the aim of eliminating single-use plastic film, the Riccobono Lab has taken an interest in putting press titles delivered by post into paper.

Groupe Riccobono has filed a patent, the ERS (for Enduction Riccobono System), a machine for manufacturing thin heat-sealing paper that offers an alternative to plastic film for the press sector, allowing publishers to save on postage, but also usable by other industries in the dry cleaning sector. This is the genesis of the Packaging activity.

Explore AI

The Riccobono Lab isn't limited to in-house research. It supports clients in adopting new solutions and supports the continuous improvement of existing processes. The goal is to deliver sustainable innovations and anticipate regulatory changes.

With a focus on innovation, the group explores the challenges of artificial intelligence. Training programs are being implemented to raise awareness among teams about the opportunities offered by AI, its potential applications in industrial activities, and the potential pitfalls to anticipate.

In applying AI in the group's activities, let us mention the launch of "La Fabrique". In February 2025, the company Opper - publisher of software solutions for the media -, Proximy and France Routage, in collaboration with the entire Riccobono Group, decided to launch "La Fabrique", an initiative intended to support the transformation of the media sector.

In other words, it's about facilitating the interconnection of information systems, those of Proximy, those of France Routage and those of Opper for monetization. With the ultimate goal of structuring and improving the entire value chain.
